Motongator Joe Interview on WUPY 101.1 FM Ontonagon, MI

In support of his upcoming show June 22, 2007 9pm-1am at George’s Shamrock, 401 River St. Ontonagon, MI, Motongator Joe interviewed with Jackie Dobbins of WUPY 101.1 FM. After some initial technical difficulties at the station, Jackie and Joe had this to say: LISTEN HERE

Wanted: 7 Piece Band and Beer

Saturday, June 16th, 10pm in the Don Williams Pavillion at Porterfield Country Music Festival was one hell of a show! “It was all there; fiddle, steel guitar, lead (x2), bass, drums-women, beer, holler’n & swaller’n-we couldn’t have asked for anything more!” exclaimed Motongator Joe. And the crowd was in agreement with that! A show that was only supposed to last until 2am was urged on until after 3am. Porterfield’s John Leisner said, “Unfortunately they [Motongator Joe] got a late start due to the delay of Clint Black’s show, so we thought, ‘Why not’ let ‘em go!”

‘Through Wind and Snow and Rain. . . or A BLIZZARD!’

Promoters hear this: “I haven’t missed a show in over 10 years, I’m not about to start now! The bus is pushin’ snow, but we’re gonna make it!”

Traveling straight through the plains blizzard of 2007, Motongator Joe left on a trek from Pierre, SD before 8 am March 2nd in an effort to make it to Hankinson, ND for their debut performance at the Dakota Magic Casino slated for March 2nd and 3rd. “Interstate 29 was closed from Sisseton, SD south, so that route was definitely out. What should have been a 4 hour trip took over 7 hours along drifted-over back roads and with visibility of zero at many points in our journey,” stated Motongator Joe. “When I could finally check in with Sara at the label, she informed me that bands were canceling at numerous venues and casinos within the quad-state area. I told her, ‘We’re pushin’ snow, but we’re gonna make it.’”

And make it they did! So folks if you think the show is off just because of “a little snow”, think again! Motongator Joe is serious when he says he’s “Preserving Country Music By Force” (with a big ole’ Eagle tour bus!)

‘High-energy, hillbilly, testosterone, outlaw country’

By WESLEY WATSON
Casper Star-Tribune staff writer

OK, all you country fans out there. Your ol’ buddy Wes has something special for you.

This weekend in Kaycee — with several other Wyoming stops throughout the month of December — Motongator Joe will be dropping in to deliver his throwback style of “keep it simple” country, which has been described as “high-energy, hillbilly, testosterone, outlaw country.”

Sounds like my kind of shindig.

What’s that? Never heard of him? Well, you will.
In his short time on the scene, Joe has amassed a cult-type following named the Motongator Militia — and in the meantime became Nashville’s Underground Entertainer of the Year.

But I’ve got to warn you, this isn’t your typical teddy-bears-and-teardrops-floating-down-a-champagne-river-out-to-the-ocean Tim McGraw-type of fluffy country that’s going around today.

“But Wes, Tim McGraw is a true artist who sings from his heart.” Now now, don’t get huffy. I like ol’ Tim as much as the next guy. I usually put on his CD before popping open a gallon of Rocky Road and shedding a few tears over the newest men-are-big-meanies movie on the Lifetime Network. (sarcasm)

No sirree Bob, this is old school country, born of a strict upbringing on Johnny Cash, George Jones and Merle Haggard. The CEO of International Airplay Nashville has even said, “He’s the next Waylon Jennings.” Now them’s big words, my friends.

So, if you want to be one of those cool “You know I saw him before he got all big and famous” guys, you better catch him on this go round. Joe will be playing the Invasion Bar, 343 Nolan Avenue in Kaycee, tonight and Saturday, starting at 9 p.m. No cover.

P.S. I apologize for my comments about Tim McGraw. Please send your hate mail to the address listed below.
