OK, all you country fans out there. Your ol’ buddy Wes has something special for you.
This weekend in Kaycee — with several other Wyoming stops throughout the month of December — Motongator Joe will be dropping in to deliver his throwback style of “keep it simple” country, which has been described as “high-energy, hillbilly, testosterone, outlaw country.”
Sounds like my kind of shindig.
What’s that? Never heard of him? Well, you will.
In his short time on the scene, Joe has amassed a cult-type following named the Motongator Militia — and in the meantime became Nashville’s Underground Entertainer of the Year.
But I’ve got to warn you, this isn’t your typical teddy-bears-and-teardrops-floating-down-a-champagne-river-out-to-the-ocean Tim McGraw-type of fluffy country that’s going around today.
“But Wes, Tim McGraw is a true artist who sings from his heart.” Now now, don’t get huffy. I like ol’ Tim as much as the next guy. I usually put on his CD before popping open a gallon of Rocky Road and shedding a few tears over the newest men-are-big-meanies movie on the Lifetime Network. (sarcasm)
No sirree Bob, this is old school country, born of a strict upbringing on Johnny Cash, George Jones and Merle Haggard. The CEO of International Airplay Nashville has even said, “He’s the next Waylon Jennings.” Now them’s big words, my friends.
So, if you want to be one of those cool “You know I saw him before he got all big and famous” guys, you better catch him on this go round. Joe will be playing the Invasion Bar, 343 Nolan Avenue in Kaycee, tonight and Saturday, starting at 9 p.m. No cover.
P.S. I apologize for my comments about Tim McGraw. Please send your hate mail to the address listed below.
